Editorial standards
How My Insurance Expert researches, writes, reviews and corrects its content. We are an independent editorial research publisher — not an FCA-authorised intermediary, and we do not sell, arrange or compare insurance — and these standards explain exactly how we keep our UK insurance guides accurate, plain and trustworthy.
Our editorial principles
My Insurance Expert (myinsuranceexpert.co.uk) publishes independent research to help people in the UK understand insurance. We are ICO-registered and our content is produced to three core principles:
- Independent. Our guides are written on editorial merit. We currently earn no introducer or affiliate income and have no commercial relationships with insurers, brokers or comparison sites — and no insurer or partner can pay for favourable coverage, ranking or placement, now or in future.
- Accurate. We rely on named, reputable UK sources and check time-sensitive facts before publishing. Where the picture is uncertain or changing, we say so rather than guessing.
- Plain English. Insurance is full of jargon. We explain terms in clear, calm language so readers can make their own informed decisions — we never tell you what to buy.
How we research
Every guide is built from current, verifiable UK information. The named sources we lean on most include:
- The Association of British Insurers (ABI) for industry data, market statistics and consumer guidance.
- The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for the regulatory framework, the Financial Services Register and consumer protections.
- gov.uk and official bodies (for example HMRC and the Money and Pensions Service) for tax treatment, rules and public guidance.
- Published insurer data — policy documents, key facts and claims statistics that insurers make publicly available.
Where a fact can change over time — tax rules, thresholds, typical costs — we verify it against a primary source at the time of writing and record when the page was last updated.
Our use of figures
Insurance pricing is personal and is set by each insurer’s own underwriting. Because of that, our policy on figures is deliberately conservative:
- We use ranges and indicative figures, not invented precise premiums. If we mention a typical cost, it is an orientation aid drawn from public data, clearly labelled indicative.
- Nothing on this site is a quote. A quote can only come from an insurer or authorised intermediary after assessing your individual circumstances.
- We avoid implying certainty we do not have. Where a number depends on age, health, cover amount or insurer, we say so.
Review & fact-checking
Content is reviewed by the My Insurance Expert editorial team before and after publication. We refresh figures and time-sensitive facts regularly so guidance stays current, and every page carries a clear “last updated” date so you can see how recent it is. When rules or market conditions change materially, we revisit the affected pages rather than leaving stale information in place.
Use of AI tools in drafting
We sometimes use AI tools to help with drafting, structuring and editing our content. This never replaces human judgement: every page is reviewed and approved by the My Insurance Expert editorial team, which remains fully accountable for accuracy, sourcing and tone. AI is a writing aid — it is not the author of record, and we do not publish AI output unchecked. The same standards on sourcing, indicative figures and commercial independence apply regardless of how a draft was produced.
Corrections policy
We want our content to be right, and we welcome being told when it is not. If you spot an error or something that reads as out of date, email editorial@myinsuranceexpert.co.uk with the page and the detail. We review reports promptly, correct genuine errors, and update the page’s “last updated” date when we make a material change.
No pay-for-placement
My Insurance Expert currently earns no introducer or affiliate income — the site is unmonetised while we build our research, and we have no commercial relationships with insurers, brokers or comparison sites. Money does not buy editorial coverage here and never will: no insurer or partner can pay to be featured, recommended, ranked higher or placed more prominently. Our research and any ordering reflect editorial judgement only. If disclosed revenue — advertising or partnerships — is ever introduced, it will be set out on our How we get paid page before it starts. For the full detail of our regulatory position, see our FCA disclosures and the methodology behind our guides.
Information only — not financial advice. My Insurance Expert provides independent editorial research; we are not FCA-authorised and do not provide advice, or sell, arrange or compare insurance. We currently have no commercial relationships with insurers, brokers or comparison sites. Last updated: 2026-08-02
