How our guides are written and checked

The rules behind every guide and comparison on this site, and the things we will never publish.

Typical UK insurance costs

Independent research — typical UK costs from ABI, Which? and MoneyHelper published data.

Information, never advice

My Insurance Expert explains how different kinds of personal insurance work — life, income protection, private medical, home and the rest — so that you understand your options before you decide. It does not tell you what to buy. We are not authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, we do not sell, arrange or compare insurance, and nothing here is a personal recommendation. Where a decision needs advice on your own circumstances, the page says so and points you to a regulated adviser.

Sources

Statements about how cover works and how it is regulated come from the primary sources: the FCA, the Financial Ombudsman Service, GOV.UK and the legislation. Market and cost figures come from published industry data and from our own structured research, as described on our methodology page; where a figure is an estimate rather than a published statistic, the page says so.

Independence

The site is free to use and currently earns nothing: no commercial relationships with insurers, brokers or comparison sites, no affiliate links, no introducer fees, as set out on how we get paid. No insurer or broker can pay to be mentioned, rated or ranked. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed on that page and on every page it affects before it takes effect.

Corrections and updates

Every page carries its last-updated date, and figures are refreshed when the data behind them is republished. If you find an error, use the contact page or write to editorial@myinsuranceexpert.co.uk, and say which page. Reports are checked against the source and material corrections are made on the page itself.

What we will not publish

Sponsored content, paid rankings, invented reviews, claims about a provider we cannot source, or anything that presents itself as advice on what you personally should buy.
